The Valley of Rabones, oil painting by Clina Polloni. Once I had a farm in the beautiful Valley of Rabones, in the central region of Chile, is called “Region del Maule”. Memories of peaceful days with people of clear spirits like the waters of the Putagan River.
I lived for 10 years in our farm called “Las Puertas de Rabones”. I was close to God, to nature and to animals. Memories of golden sunny days, enjoying the company of beautiful people with spirits as clear as the crystal water running through the fertile land. I learned about their culture, their traditions and the purity of their lives. "Rio Putagan" embraces this rural land, surrounded by white adobe homes with colorful flowers and rich harvest. The closest city to Rabones is Linares at 22 Kilometers.
"We are receiving funds to help the poorest people, who are in the countryside," Father Waldo Alfaro, head of the Caritas Chile office in Linares, told Catholic News Service. "The adobe houses common in the poorest rural regions are the ones that collapsed," he said. Linares is in the Maule region, where most of the quake deaths occurred. "This is an area where the poorest rural residents live," Father Alfaro said. "Aid is not reaching them because these are very small villages." Three trucks left Linares early March to distribute supplies, especially food and water, to residents in the farming region.
